“The Universe is holding its breath and waiting for you to take your place.” – Jean Houston

I’m fascinated by the giant sequoias in California and I’ve learned that there was a point when naturally occurring forest fires would be suppressed. Over time, however, scientists realized that suppressing the fires was harming the forest, because no new trees were sprouting.

It turns out that nature knew what it was doing. Fire was needed to burn the deadwood, which would then nourish the soil and prepare the ground for sequoia seedlings.

2020 has been the year of the great burn.

But just as fire in the forest serves a purpose, so has the fire of 2020.

It is burning away the deadwood and preparing the soil for a new birth.

We’ve been asking for so much on so many fronts. In short, we want a better world. And our prayers are being answered. We called forth the fire to rid us of the deadwood, so we can create space for the new.

A new earth is rising.

And that which wants to come forth is more joy, connectedness, prosperity, peace and love.

Our experience of what’s rising, however, is completely up to us. The beauty appears once we start to tune to it. We must look for it. For whatever we put our attention on becomes more.

If we focus on what’s wrong or “broken”, that will expand in our experience.

If we focus on the gifts and the beauty of what is here and what’s coming, then that will expand.

What are you tuned to in your life? What are you perceiving?

Are you fixated on what’s wrong? Or are you ruminating on what’s right?

How you respond to these questions will determine how you shape the coming year.

There will be those who will continue to lean towards fear and those who will lean towards love.

And as you can imagine, their experience of what’s unfolding will be completely different. It will be as if they live in two totally different worlds.

I wanted to be in touch with you today, to remind you that you have a choice about which path you take.

I’m not a student of astrology, but I tune in from time to time because I believe that it’s one of the ways that the Universe gives us to understand the bigger picture of what’s unfolding in the collective. I don’t believe that the stars predict our path, rather I think it illuminates our choices and opportunities.

Now is a powerful time to set your intentions for the upcoming year.

Astrologists explain that we are shifting from one age to another and the age we are shifting to provides enormous opportunities for our expansion.  If you’d like to understand why, you can check out Dr. Michael Lennox’s blog. I find his work to be insightful and compelling.

And because we’re at year’s end… and the end of a most tumultuous year, the case for choosing a bit of stillness to get clear on where you want to go from here is even more pronounced.

It does not have to be complicated. Grab a journal, put on some inspiring, low key music, light a candle and have a talk with your soul.

Reflection Questions:

What did 2020 open in you?

In what ways do you want to expand in 2021?

What do you want to experience?

What do you want to create?

What do you want to give?

Who are you being called to be?

Use these questions to spark your intention setting and come up with 2 or 3 intentions that feel soulfully delicious. Write them down to make them concrete, bless them and then carry them in your heart.

That’s it.

Then trust that the Universe will take it from there. See it as already done and watch for your marching orders, i.e. the sweet sacred whispers that will guide you, if you allow.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but all around me, I’ve seen so many people stepping boldly into their purpose this year. Yes, even in the midst of ALL that 2020 has been.

People walked away from jobs, relationships and situations that no longer served them. They started businesses and took leaps of faith. It’s as if a huge thrust of air pushed them up and forward. This is not coincidental. It’s time. It’s a time of great awakening. It’s time for all of us to be who we came to the planet to be.

Recently, having learned of two painful losses, my friend Mary-Elizabeth said to me,

“These kinds of things remind me of how lucky we are and how I don’t want to be wasting precious time playing it small. The pandemic has emboldened me to step into my leadership shoes. I was still feeling as if ‘real leadership’ was for someone else as if I’m a fake leader.”

This moment, right now, is uncomfortable for all of us. It’s a feature of the burn. Discomfort comes with the fire. But new energies and opportunities are available to all of us to help us take our place and live as we were meant to live. Tune to it. Look forward. Be relentless in your willingness to tap into beauty, magic, and possibilities.

Blessings, my friend. Open to goodness and open to grace.
